Match
Report:
What was supposed to be a tricky match
turned out in a 2-0 comfortable win. This match marked the start
of the GFA season. Munxar Falcons
were making their comeback to competitive football, after an absence
of six seasons. Our formation included four debutantes: Kenny
Grima, Francesco
Cini, Stephen
Orlando and Ishaku
Umoru.
Martin Cremona, Joel Portelli, Orlando Atzori and Andrew Zammit
made their return to the squad after spending last season out on
loan.
The
initial stages of the match were quite balanced. We could have taken
the lead in the early stages but an effort by S. Theuma was cleared
off the line by Debrincat. Munxar replied with a shoot by Calleja
which was easily saved by goalie Grima. Oratory opened the score
in the 21st minute through an own goal by Robert Said, who headed
in a free kick well taken by S. Orlando from the edge of the box.
Munxar
could had leveled the score when C. Debrincat was left unmarked
in the six yard box. However his header ended wide over the bar.
On a well crafted counter attack, Munxar’s goalie Parnis made
the safe of the game and kept his side in contention when he blocked
the shot by F. Cini.
The second half saw our boys control the game. The Falcons continued
to find it hard to create any scoring opportunities. On the other
hand Oratory had a few opportunities with Umoru's and Cremona's
efforts just missing the target. Debutante Ishaku Umoru put qualification
to the semifinal beyond doubt with his first goal for the club on
the 79th minute.
Oratory
Youths now face SK Victoria Wanderers in the semifinal.
