Match Report:
SK Victoria Wanderers earned a place in the semi-finals of the GFA Cup with a victory over neighbours Oratory Youths. This clash between two sides from the lower category was well contested and the qualification remained uncertain until the Wanderers scored their third goal. Oratory produced their best performance of the season. They were well organised at their defence and more threatening than other occasions in attack through fast breaks by Ishaku Umoru and Ejofor Nkwocha. The Wanderers managed to recover from a difficult situation and turned the result in their favour with a good reaction after the break.

As expected the Wanderers saw more of the ball from the early stages but Oratory produced the first dangerous action. In the 8th minute Ishaku Umoru entered the area but his lob over goalie Marlon Mercieca ended just wide. The Wanderers increased their momentum and goalie Kelly Grima made a fine save in the 12th minute following a shot by Ige Adesina. Minutes later an attempt by Chris Sciortino ended wide and in the 25th minute it was Ige Adesina who concluded badly from a good position. Three minutes later Oratory’s Ishaku Umoro had a shot from an angled position that hit the side of the net after a fine move by Andrew Zammit.

However, Umoru made up for the mistake in the 35th minute when he entered the area with a fine move and released Ejofor Nkwocha who placed easily behind goalie Marlon Merceica. The Wanderers took some time to recover from the shock and produced their first attempt at goal in the 44th minute when Ige Adesina’s low shot was well blocked by goalie Kelly Grima. Victoria levelled the score in the 45th minute when the same Adesina was floored in the area by Robert Attard and David Udo Monday converted from the penalty spot.

After the resumption the Wanderers seemed more aggressive and Ajibade Adesina had a low angled shot that ended just wide. Victoria turned the result in their favour in the 50th minute through a fine header by player-coach Mark Buttigieg following a corner kick by Joseph Vella. The Youths went in search for the equaliser and in the 70th minute substitute Franceso Cini was released in the area by Ihaku Umoru but his lob ended wide. Victoria operated with fast breaks and in the 80th minute an effort by Joseph Vella just missed the target. However, Victoria sealed the issue one minute later with an excellent goal by Ige Adesina, who won a tussle just outside Oratory’s area and fired in goal from an angled position. In the final minutes Oratory’s keeper Kelly Grima denied Chris Sciortino and Ige Adesina from increasing the score with two fine saves.
