Zebbug Rovers obtained the doubled over
Oratory Youths and consolidated their mid-table position. The Rovers
dominated over their opponents, especially during the second period
when they scored four of their five goals. With this defeat the
Youths remain at the bottom of the table at the end of the second
round.
The Rovers came out more aggressive and an effort by Basil Chibueze
was deflected by goalie Grima on the crossbar. However, Zebbug’s
supremacy was controlled by Oratory’s defence and the Youths
managed to open the score in the 32nd minute through Alex Sacco
following a pass by Zammit.
Zebbug produced and immediate reaction and their efforts were rewarded
in the 43rd minute with a fine header by Joseph Cordina following
a cross by Chris Buttigieg.
Play was quite balanced during the first minutes of the second period
and the two teams produced some good scoring opportunities. Zebbug
were dangerous with efforts by Joseph Cordina and Joe Hili, while
Oratory went close to regain the lead with efforts by Zammit, substitute
Orlando Atzori and Chris Buttigieg.
The Rovers turned the result in their favour in the 58th minute
when Oratory’s goalie Grima partially saved a shot by Franco
Magrin and Joseph Cordina headed in goal from the rebound.
Four minutes later the Zebbug increased their lead. On this occasion
Joseph Cordina’s attempt was blocked by goalie Grima and from
the rebound Basil Chibueze concluded into an open goal.
The score became 4-1 for the Rovers in the 68th minute with another
goal by Basil Chibueze. The same Chibueze registered his personal
hat-trick in the 86th minute when he concluded a personal action.
The Youths made the score more respectable in the 90th minute with
a goal by Zammit.
